Personal Journal, Volume 3

This book is the second of a pair I made in the summer of 2025, with the first being a copper version. It is now my third journal for personal use, while the copper version is my personal art journal.

The book is bound using protea wood for the covers, the text block sewn onto hemp cords, and mangosteen-colored leather to quarter bind the spine. Endpapers are made from layering fibrous mulberry paper with coreopsis petals on top of each layer, while the fly leaves are made from upcycled brown paper.

Headbands are sewn in using a burgundy thread, and the inner cords are physically inserted into the covers to ensure strength at the head and tail. I added a marking ribbon from the top, hanging down, which I now wish I had reversed as I just prefer the tab to show from the top. I now do this in all later books. On the front and back covers and the spine, I added Sterling silver furnishings – a teardrop maker’s mark for the back and spine, and a plaque for the front.
