Cloth Case Binding

Currently untitled and yet-to-be-used, this was the first case binding I added to my archive. I had technically made two smaller ones before this for practice, but this was one I felt fit the bill for the elements I look for in a book. Of course, there are always things you can improve upon when making something, but for a first go, it is quite satisfying.

I made this one using composite board for the covers and upcycled some left over framing mat board for the spine. The cloth is an older rayon shirt that I grew out of but kept because I loved the pattern/colors/texture, so I added some interfacing to the back side for reinforcement. The flyleaf/endpaper combos are one long piece of Japanese washi with a deep, block-printed indigo pattern. I finished the binding with Sterling silver teardrop and my maker’s seal.
