Cosmos are named after the Greek word “kosmos,” meaning “order”, “universe” or “harmony”, referencing the typically evenly spaced petal arrangements. “Kosmos” also translates to an orderly harmonious systematic universe and contrasts chaos; thus, this flower can be a symbolic message of “things are as they should be” and to live in the moment. They are often symbolic of peace, balance, tranquility and joy, which is why I chose to press the flower in its pose. To me, the flower looks like it is dancing, enjoying its experience and holds what was, is, and can be.

The specimen in the pressing was collected from the sea of flowers shown here.
The glass used in this piece is reclaimed from picture frames that were given to me to make into something new. There are some scratches that came with the glass, which I have strategically placed to be minimized, visually. However, they can be found if you look closely. Rest assured, what may look like defects are part of the design. Just as the flower has a history, so too does the glass.
