Somewhere between being a kid and entering adolescence, I lost a passion for painting without really realizing what I was stepping away from. I had an art teacher in middle school make painting feel dreadful due to stringent “rules”, which pushed me away from the medium for a long time. That is, until 2020 when I randomly decided I would try oil painting. Since then, I have steadily grown into loving it, finding it has near magical properties. It can capture emotion, depth, light, color, perception, and perspective in such nuanced and interesting ways that I have found it to be a perfect creative outlet. It also functions as a very good facilitator of flow state, therapy-like calming, and a perfect blend of art and science.
As a disclaimer, some of the oil paintings I have done are derivative from other artists where I had found an image I liked and wanted to use as a study to learn oil painting techniques. I do not intend to infringe upon the artist’s copyrights; I simply am displaying oil painting technique progress. All artists will be credited if my practice pieces use copyrighted work.
