Pandemic Protection

MASK-CoV-1

This was my first mask project that I had made during the pandemic, as many people were getting creative in mask creation in the midst of a shortage. I remember, one day while at work, there was a box of masks on the table and when turned around later, that entire box was stolen (mind you this was a health clinic). There was a severe shortage of PPE, so when surgical masks were no longer available at ease, we got creative and somewhat stylish!

This mask was made from a business shirt I had grown out of and not wanted to throw away. I used some left over gold chain necklaces I had from previous art projects and threw together this fun mask. It was a nice meditative practice as well, particularly in the sewing portion since it slowed down the mind and hands. It is specifically fit for my face too, so it can be worn and fits nice and snug. The chains on the front droop down and will jingle/sway as you move, which adds a bit of fun and play to something that was, actually, quite serious/heavy at the time.
